One of the great things about being in a race environment is the opportunity to meet new people, that may become friends and running buddies. During the Blackall 50K race in October 2024, I met Alex Magee. It was towards the end of this ultra-marathon, when we’d had enough leap-frogging each other, where I would get a lead, and then he’d take over the lead, and so on and so forth, where we seemed to both have enough and just walked together for a while (N.B. Alex would go on to power ahead of me across the finish line). We got chatting, and learned a bit about each other, and we’ve remained in contact since. Alex was very gracious in coming on to be a guest on the FR podcast to talk about that day - which was his first ultra marathon - how and why he got into running, and what it means to him to be able to take part in such a wonderful activity.

Fluorescent Runner Podcast
Running and meditation serve my connections to self, community and earth. I run and meditate to gain focus and perspective. Both activities provide abundant reflection. And reflections. It is my joy to share these fluorescent phenomena.
